ExxonMobil increases production of polypropylene and doped alcohol
Multinational oil and gas producer ExxonMobil (ExxonMobil) said on April 15 that due to the urgent need for materials such as medical masks, surgical gowns and hand sanitizers under the epidemic, the company has increased the production of raw materials needed to manufacture these materials.
ExxonMobil has expanded its production capacity and plans to produce 1,000 tons of special polypropylene every month. These materials can be converted into 200 million medical masks or 20 million surgical gowns.
In addition, the company has also increased the production capacity of isopropyl alcohol to 3,000 tons per month, which can be used to produce 50 million bottles of medical-grade hand sanitizer in 4 oz.
ExxonMobil will produce polypropylene at plants in multiple regions, including Baytown, Texas, Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and Singapore. Isopropyl alcohol (also known as rubbing alcohol) will also be produced at the Baton Rouge plant.
In addition, ExxonMobil is also waiting for the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to approve its new mask design. Its mask features a replaceable filter structure with filter cloth.
