Soda Ash Market Remains Stable Amidst Caution

ECHEMI 2025-10-23

October 22, news

I. Price Trends

According to the commodity analysis system, on October 22, the average market price of light soda ash in China was 1,186 CNY/ton, which is the same as the price of 1,186 CNY/ton on October 11. The price of soda ash remained stable in mid-October.

II. Market Analysis

Recently, the soda ash market in China has been mainly stable with a wait-and-see attitude. Downstream purchases have been following demand, but the enthusiasm for entering the market is not high, and the sales of soda ash enterprises are poor. On the supply side, some companies have shut down or reduced their production, which provides some support to the market sentiment. However, the overall inventory of soda ash is relatively high, and the downstream follow-up is limited. The market is in a state of supply and demand competition, and most enterprises are maintaining a wait-and-see attitude, with quotations remaining stable.

On the demand side: According to the commodity analysis system, glass market prices have recently experienced a significant decline. As of October 22, the average market price stood at 14.63 yuan per square meter, representing a 6.82% decrease compared to the price of 15.70 CNY per ton on October 11. Meanwhile, glass production facilities continue to operate steadily, but market supply has increased. Downstream demand remains lackluster, leading to a reduction in manufacturer orders. Consequently, social inventory levels are not being adequately depleted, while corporate inventories are steadily building up. As a result, glass prices are trending downward with weak momentum.

Looking ahead, the current spot market for soda ash in China is operating steadily. However, with maintenance shutdowns at production facilities expected to resume in the coming period, market sentiment toward soda ash remains bearish. Meanwhile, weak demand from the downstream glass industry is failing to provide sufficient support for soda ash prices. As a result, the market fundamentals point to an oversupply situation, suggesting that soda ash prices are likely to remain under pressure. Traders should closely monitor actual sales activity in the market.
