ECHEMI 2018-01-02

Rutile Titanium Dioxide Market Review

1

The Chinese rutile titanium dioxide market remained stable first and then became weak in December. The titanium concentrate market was largely stable. Prices increases of sulphur boosted the sulfuric acid market. Moreover, influenced by the heating season, the LNG prices moved up. The production cost of titanium dioxide went up. Few producers raised prices while most of the producers held stable offers. The downstream demand for titanium dioxide was thin. Up to December 29, the mainstream negotiation prices for Rutile Titanium Dioxide were in the range of RMB 15,500-15,700/mt.

Anatase Titanium Dioxide Market Review:

2

The Chinese anatase titanium dioxide market fluctuated lower in December 2017. Influenced by the traditional off-season, the overall operating rate in downstream industries was low. Anatase titanium dioxide producers saw sales pressure. Some producers cut down prices to promote sales. Up to December 29, the reference prices for anatase titanium dioxide were in the range of RMB 13,300-14,500/mt.

Forecast: Prices of raw materials will remain largely stable. In January 2018, foreign producers tend to raise prices and Chinese agents will follow the trend. But most Chinese titanium dioxide producers will main stable prices. The downstream demand will continue to be flat. At the end of January, the titanium dioxide market may rebound slightly on the coming Spring Festival.
