Asia's largest spice market under epidemic

Last Monday, the hundreds-year-old Indian spices wholesale market Khari Bawli had very few passengers, with only 10 to 12 stores operating but no buyers.

Khari Bawli is not only the largest spice market in Asia, but also a prosperous business district for northern, western and central India.

Krishna Mittal, the shop owner in the market, said he resumed business immediately after the government eased the blockade policy. There is enough stock of red pepper and other spices in the store, such as coriander powder, black pepper, cardamom and fennel, but no one is interested. The shop also has Patna and Kashmir peppers, but almost no one buys them.

Trader Shiv Parshad said that because Delhi is a severe epidemic area, most foreign traders did not come to purchase, before they usually buy in large quantities. In addition, hotels and catering companies no longer purchase raw materials.
