The EU intends to revise the detection method for ethanol from agricultural sources for the production of alcohol

On 8 November 2022, the European Commission's website published Proposal Ref.Ares (2022) 7695930 to amend the proposed amendments to the detection methods for agricultural-derived ethanol used in the production of spirits, aromatic wines and their derived alcoholic beverages (Regulation (EC) No 2870/2000). The main contents of the revision are: (1) revision of the detection method of furfural and volatile substances in ethanol from agricultural sources; (2) A new detection method of 14C in ethanol from agricultural sources, specifically liquid scintillation counting method. The comment period for this proposal ends December 6, 2022.
