The San Antonio International Terminal in Chile will double cherry traffic this season

foodmate 2022-12-15

The latest forecast says that in the 2022/23 season, the international terminal (STI) in San Antonio in Chile will transfer about 13,000 containers of cherries, which is double the number recorded in the 2021/22 season.

Andrés Albertini, commercial manager at STI, said on December 12: "We face an important challenge in the coming weeks, and we are ready with the human team to provide the best service for cherries." We know that this time is crucial for fruit exporters and STI is the main port for cherries in Chile, therefore, our staff is committed to providing efficient and safe work to guarantee that the fruit reaches its destination within the planned time. ”

According to reports, the main concession terminal in San Antonio, Chile, has 2,700 reefer connection points, and the shipping companies involved in the transportation, including Evergreen, Cosco, Maersk and Cherry Express, have been specially coordinated.

"So far, we have transported 4 boatloads of cherries, or 2,507 containers, and the process has been very smooth. We will continue to work hard to provide quality services. Albertini added.

Asia is the main export destination for Chilean cherries, and the demand for cherries in the Asian market increases significantly at this time of year. This is because cherries are considered the star product of Chinese New Year celebrations. In 2023, Chinese New Year celebrations will begin on January 22, when the public will choose to give cherries, a symbol of prosperity and good omen, as gifts to friends and family.
