How much impact did the Lebanon explosion have on China's chemical foreign trade
On August 4, 2020, an explosion occurred in Beirut, the capital of Lebanon. At present, more than 100 people have been killed and more than 4,000 injured. The shock wave of the explosion spread more than 20 kilometers in Beirut, causing serious damage to hundreds of buildings.
It is reported that the explosion occurred in the port of Beirut in Lebanon. The cause was the 2,750 tons of ammonium nitrate seized in 2014. Beirut Port is the most important port on the east coast of the Mediterranean. It is located in the middle of the west coast and on the east side of the Mediterranean. It is the largest port in Lebanon and the largest sea port on the east coast of the Mediterranean. Occupies an important position in the industry.
The main industries of Beirut Port include textiles, clothing, shoemaking, food and printing, etc. It has 12 docks, a coastline of 3053 meters, and oil pipelines with a diameter of 152.4 to 254 mm. The Beirut port area can berth ships of up to 30,000 deadweight tons, with a loading and unloading rate of 200 tons of petroleum products per hour and 100 tons of grains per hour.
It is understood that due to the explosion in Beirut Port, more than 80% of Lebanon’s trade has been stalled, including chemical trade. According to the person in charge of an international trading company in China, we plan to export the superplasticizer products to Lebanon. Due to this explosion, the receiving party notified us not to ship the goods temporarily. The specific delivery time will be notified separately.
Customs data shows that the trade products between China and Lebanon each year are mostly sheet metal, high-end manufacturing products, and resource products, with less chemical trade. Among them, most of the chemicals exported from China to Lebanon in 2019 were propylene glycol, water reducers, ammonium sulfate and plastic products. And China's imports of Lebanon's chemical products are only a very small amount of polyethylene products.
The big explosion in Lebanon, due to the very small scale of chemical trade between China and Lebanon, and the single variety, and the trade is very infrequent, so it has little impact on the Chinese chemical industry. It is only a very small number of companies that have long-term trade with Lebanon. huge influence. It is understood that most of the orders of companies that maintain trade with Lebanon have stalled, waiting for the specific delivery notice from Lebanon.
