The world's first | BASF will launch its latest compound, azinazolamide, in Australia

Recently, the Australian Pesticide and Veterinary Medicines Administration (APVMA) has approved the use of Efficon™, an insecticide product containing BASF's latest active ingredient Axalion™Active. Used in a variety of vegetable crops. Australia will be BASF's first market for Axalion™ in the world. Axalion™Active chemical name dimpropyridaz, which can be used to control stinging pests.

With its novel mode of action and ability to spread within plants, azinazolamide can be used by farmers to control most suction mouthparts pests, including whiteflies and aphids, that can cause devastating yield and income losses. Azinazolamide quickly deters pest feeding, reduces nutrient loss, and effectively prevents pest-borne diseases, thereby ensuring plant health and optimal yields with higher crop quality.

Azinazolamide has no known cross-resistance and is effective against pests that are resistant to existing chemicals and can no longer be controlled at current market levels. Azinazolamide is an excellent partner in pest control management projects and will be an important part of the Integrated Pest Management (IPM) approach for farmers. Applied according to label instructions, the compound has been shown to be highly compatible with non-target organisms, including beneficial insects, while effectively controlling target pests.

The product Efficon, containing azinazolamide, controls silver leaf and greenhouse whitefly in cotton, gourd and fruit vegetable crops, green peach aphids and cabbage aphids in brassica and leafy vegetable crops, and cotton (or melon) aphids in cotton and gourd crops. The product will be available in Australia in April. BASF plans to roll out the product in Asia, Europe and South America in the coming years.

Azinazolamide will further expand BASF's plant protection portfolio. Stephanie Jensen, Vice President, Global Strategic Marketing for Pesticides and Seeds, BASF's Agricultural Solutions Division, said: "With azazolamide, BASF will redefine modern pest control and protect farmers' hard-earned harvests. Azinazolamide provides farmers with a much-needed new and powerful tool to protect crops while relieving the growing resistance pressure on past products. ″

Gavin Jackson, Head of Agricultural Solutions at BASF Australia and New Zealand, said: "Efficon is a valuable addition to crop rotation protection for Australian farmers, providing a high level of control over whiteflies and aphids, effective at multiple stages of the target pest life cycle, and therefore suppressing whiteflies more quickly and effectively than in the past industry level. The systemic nature of the product provides growers with a wide application time at multiple stages of crop growth, allowing Efficon to be combined with other BASF solutions such as Versys® Insecticide. Applying Efficon and Versys together provides unparalleled control over destructive suction mouthpiece pests. ″
