DuPont joins hands with Procter & Gamble to develop 'next generation' probiotics
On September 21, the Human Microbiome Venture Capital Division of DuPont announced the establishment of a research partnership with Procter & Gamble, focusing on the discovery and development of innovative next-generation probiotics for human health.
More and more studies have shown that diet and poor lifestyle will negatively affect the intestinal microbiota, leading to chronic low-grade inflammation, which is closely related to the occurrence and prevalence of metabolic health-related diseases. Conversely, increased levels of certain anaerobic bacteria in the gut have been shown to increase insulin sensitivity, thereby helping to maintain healthy blood sugar levels.
Sebastien Guery, Head of the Human Microbiome Venture Capital Division of DuPont Nutrition and Biotechnology Division, said: "It is an exciting opportunity to work with Procter & Gamble to jointly develop next-generation microbial-based products. DuPont and Procter & Gamble have a series of unique capabilities. The combination of these will enable us to accelerate innovation in the field of metabolic health and help millions of consumers affected by metabolic health issues.”
Paul Gama, President of Procter & Gamble’s personal health care business, said: “As a company focused on innovation, Procter & Gamble is delighted to work hand in hand with our important partner DuPont. Align is a probiotic brand highly recommended by American health experts. Consumers’ trust. This strategic partnership will help us further advance probiotic innovation through next-generation solutions and will prove beneficial to the health and well-being of consumers around the world.”
