Microban launches new antimicrobial technology for plastics

ECHEMI 2023-02-20

On February 15, Microban International announced the launch of a new built-in antibacterial technology MicroGuard. The technology has been specially developed for polymer materials including polyvinyl chloride (PVC), polyurethane (PU) and ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer (EVA) foam.

According to Microban, compared with similar antibacterial additives on the market, MicroGuard has more user-friendly characteristics and can replace arsenic-containing organic compound antibacterial agents. The product will not pollute water sources or harm aquatic organisms during application, helping manufacturers achieve production processes that comply with industry regulatory specifications. The technology can be used in polymer products used in outdoor applications such as roof waterproofing membranes, tarpaulins, awnings and patios, as well as in consumer products made of PU and EVA foams such as shoe soles, furniture cushions and mattresses.

Microban International President Michael Ruby said: "MicroGuard, as a metal-free technology, can effectively inhibit the growth and reproduction of fungi on the surface of polymer products such as PVC, PU and EVA foam. With the blessing of this technology, Microban Guaranteed to provide manufacturers with a more efficient built-in antimicrobial solution, further extending the service life of the product."
