Basf insecticide Axalion®Active(Azidazolamide) becomes the only product in the new Mode of Action Group 36

Axalion®Active, BASF's latest insecticide innovation, has been designated by the Insecticide Resistance Action Committee (IRAC) as a new and unique mode of action Group 36. Axalion is the only product represented in this group. It is the first insecticide to receive a new IRAC mode of action classification for the control of stinging pests since 2015. The new mode of action will provide growers with greater flexibility to control target pests while helping to reduce insecticide resistance.

Azinazolamide is a Chordotonal organ regulator, which inhibits the chordotonal organ action by blocking the signal transduction of vanilloid transient receptor (TRPV) channel upstream. It interferes with the hearing, balance, orientation, gravity perception, and movement ability of the pest, making the pest lose coordination, unable to feed, and eventually death.

The product has excellent performance and good internal absorption conductivity. It is mainly used in fruit trees and vegetables, soybean, other legumes, cotton, grain, potato and other field crops, as well as flowers and ornamental plants, etc. It can control insect pests such as Lepidoptera, Coleoptera, Diptera, Hemiptera, Lophaloptera, isooptera, cockroaches, ants, especially aphids, whiteflies, wood lice, etc. These pests can cause substantial reductions in crop yields and farmers' incomes.

At the end of 2020, BASF submitted registration information for Axalion™ in Australia and South Korea, initiating the global registration of azinidazole; Registration materials were submitted to the European Union, Brazil, India and other regions and countries in 2021, and registrations in other major markets will be launched in the coming years. On December 9, 2022, BASF Australia obtained the registration of the original drug (≥950 g/kg) and the 120.0 g/L solution (brand: Efficon™) of azinazolamide in Australia.

Azinoxazolamide is a patent protected product, BASF Europe has applied for compound patents in PCT, Europe, USA and China. The name of the invention is Pyrazole Compounds for Controlling Invertebrate Pests, and the patent will expire in September 2029. Axalion is available in Australia as the Efficon® insecticide and is expected to become available to farmers in Asia Pacific, Europe and South America in the near future. Peak annual sales of Axalion™ are expected to exceed $100 million, according to Phillips McDougall.
