Sasol Chemicals Unveils Biosurfactant Brands for Daily Personal Care and Cleaning Products
Sasol introduces CARINEX and LIVINEX, both sophorolipids (SL) derived from natural palm-free oils, targeting personal care and home care markets. These biodegradable sophorolipids, well-tolerated by aquatic organisms, serve as detergents, dispersants, emulsifiers, foaming agents, and wetting agents essential for daily personal care products like shampoos, conditioners, as well as cleaning and technical applications such as detergents and degreasers.

Sasol Chemicals Launches Biosurfactant Brands for Daily Personal Care Products
Sasol Chemicals, a surfactant manufacturer, has been actively seeking eco-friendly alternatives to traditional surfactants. In March 2022, they entered into a strategic partnership with Holiferm Limited to develop sophorolipids, a fermentation-derived biosurfactant that significantly reduces the carbon footprint compared to petroleum or bio-based surfactants. Leveraging Holiferm's proprietary technology, Sasol's sophorolipids are entirely sourced from natural palm-free oils and sugars, ensuring eco-conscious products that don't compromise on performance.
Eric Stouder, Senior Vice President of Sasol Chemicals, emphasized the importance of collaborations, stating, "As Sasol continues to find ways to offer our customers lower-carbon footprint products, we believe partnerships are the key to unlocking and accelerating sustainable innovation and transformation. Combining Holiferm's advanced technology with Sasol's unique chemistry and global reach, we can now offer our customers mass-produced, high-performing, and more sustainable solutions at competitive prices."
Richard Lock, Managing Director of Holiferm, highlighted the global impact of their partnership, saying, "Our partnership with Sasol Chemicals allows us to increase the reach and use of biosurfactants in markets across the globe. We are witnessing a growing interest in sustainable solutions and are well-prepared, alongside our partners, to meet this demand."
Sasol Chemicals and Holiferm showcased this pioneering biosurfactant manufacturing technology and its implications for the future of personal care and cleaning products at the recent SEPAWA® CONGRESS 2023 conference in Berlin from October 25 to 27.
