Merck Expands Biosafety Testing Laboratory Center in Shanghai
The second phase of the China Biosafety Testing and Experimental Center project built by Merck last year with a total investment of 29 million euros has been officially opened, adding an additional 1,500 square meters to the first phase of the project last year. This testing laboratory center is Merck's first biosafety testing laboratory facility in the Chinese market, allowing customers to obtain a variety of biosafety testing services locally - cell bank characterization and batch release testing required from preclinical development to commercial launch.
The project launched in the first phase of Merck China Biosafety Testing and Experimental Center serves virus clearance verification, which is one of the most critical steps in drug development. Its second phase project adds cell bank identification and batch release testing services to help biopharmaceutical companies ensure the safety, purity and identification of their cell banks. The testing laboratory also provides GMP-compliant batch release testing services for harvest and bulk solutions to meet the requirements of biologics entering preclinical and clinical studies as well as approved biologics.
With the completion of the second phase of the center, Merck can provide a wide range of biosafety testing services for monoclonal antibodies, other recombinant proteins, and cell and gene therapies in China. This Shanghai testing and experimental center has become an important member of Merck’s global biosafety testing and experimental service network.
