10 best-selling pesticide active ingredients in Brazil (2022), Glyphosate exceeded 380,000 tons
Recently, a report by the Instituto Brasileiro do Meio Ambiente e dos Recursos Naturais Renováveis(IBAMA) revealed the top 10 best-selling active ingredients in Brazil in 2022. The most traded molecules (in tons) were Glyphosate and its salts, 2,4-Dichlorophenoxyacetic acid(2,4-D), Atrazine, Mancozeb, Acephate, Chlorothalonil, Diquat dibromide, Glufosinate ammonium, Chlorpyrifos and Methomy.
According to the data, 232 companies holding agrochemical registration certificates submitted self-declaration reports on the production, import, commercialization and export of pesticides to Ibama in 2022, with a total of 6,266 annual reports, including 4,025 formulation product (PF) reports and 2,241 technical product (PT) reports.
Of these, the sales volume of chemical and biochemical active ingredients was 800,652 tonnes, an increase of approximately 11% compared to 720,870 tonnes in the previous year (2021). Of the 3,749 registered formulation products, only 2,211 (58.97%) reported commercialization data, and the remaining 1,538 (41.03%) products did not circulate, with zero production, import and export, indicating that not all registered products have been marketed.
In addition, the production and sales of products such as chemicals, microorganisms and biological control agents, which are considered to be less harmful to the environment, have increased. Domestic sales of semi-chemicals were 23.81 tons of active ingredients and domestic production was 25.36 tons, a threefold increase from 7.70 tons in 2021; Sales of active ingredients for microbiological agents were 3,860 tons, an increase of nearly three times over the previous year; However, due to the particularity of biological control agents, the disclosure methodology is still being developed.
