WuXi Biologics will Increase Production Capacity at Its Massachusetts Base in the United States to 36,000 Liters!
On January 8, WuXi Biologics announced that in order to meet the growing demand for contract manufacturing services from global customers, it will expand its production capacity in Worcester, Massachusetts, USA to 36,000 liters.
The Worcester base will add 12,000 liters of commercial raw liquid production capacity to the original planned 24,000 liters production capacity. The base area will reach 189,500 square feet. Weather-resistant construction has recently been completed. It is expected to be officially operational in 2025 and put into GMP in 2026.
As of now, WuXi Biologics USA has a total of 400 employees, and 200 new jobs will be added after the Worcester site is fully operational.
Dr. Zhisheng Chen, CEO of WuXi Biologics, said that the Worcester site is a key link in WuXi Biologics' global production network. This addition of commercial production capacity also demonstrates the company's commitment to continuously consolidate capabilities and scale based on market and customer needs.
Last year, WuXi Biologics' first research service center in Boston was officially opened. This is WuXi Biologics' fourth U.S. base after its Worcester site in Massachusetts, its clinical production site in New Jersey, and its process development and process characterization laboratory in Pennsylvania.
It is expected that by 2025, when the Worcester base is completed and put into operation, WuXi Biologics will provide global customers with comprehensive, end-to-end services from biopharmaceutical discovery and development to clinical and commercial production in the United States.
