National Standards for Four Feed Testing Methods Successfully Initiated and Tasked
In a recent development, the National Standardization Administration Committee of China has announced the successful initiation and launch of national standards for four feed testing methods. This significant milestone, led by the National Feed Quality Inspection and Testing Center (Beijing), under the supervision of the National Feed Industry Standardization Technical Committee, aims to enhance the quality and safety regulation of animal feed in the country. The standards cover the determination of total mold count in feed and the detection of β-adrenergic agonists using liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry. On December 28, 2023, the National Standardization Administration Committee issued a notification (Document No. [2023] 64) outlining the national standard review and revision plan for 2023. Under the guidance of the National Feed Industry Standardization Technical Committee, the National Feed Quality Inspection and Testing Center (Beijing), a part of the Quality and Standards Research Institute, submitted applications for four national standards: "Determination of Total Mold Count in Feed" and "Determination of β-Adrenergic Agonists in Feed by Liquid Chromatography-Tandem Mass Spectrometry." These applications were officially approved and initiated.
The development of these standards involved comprehensive revisions to address issues, incorporate testing experience, and align with current technological advancements. The aim is to adapt to the practical application of new technologies and resolve any problems encountered during their implementation. Additionally, collaboration with the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) will be sought to promote the internationalization of these standards. The refinement and implementation of these standards will play a crucial role in providing technical support for the regulation of feed quality and safety.
As the leading body responsible for this task, the National Feed Quality Inspection and Testing Center has always attached great importance to the development and revision of standards. To kickstart the projects, the center recently organized a meeting with relevant leaders and experts. The meeting focused on the technical discussions of the four approved standards, including the presentation of the technical approaches and implementation plans by the project leaders. Valuable suggestions and feedback were provided by the attendees, ensuring an efficient and effective standard revision process. Wang Feijie, Secretary of the Party Committee and Director of the center, emphasized the importance of completing the revision tasks on schedule, maintaining the quality and level of the standards, and leveraging their industry-leading role to expand their influence at the provincial and regional levels.
The successful initiation and tasking of national standards for four feed testing methods mark a significant step towards improving the quality and safety regulation of animal feed in China. With the comprehensive revisions and collaboration with international standardization organizations, these standards are expected to provide crucial technical support for feed quality monitoring and ensure the well-being of animals and the safety of the food chain.
