AkzoNobel expands powder coating capacity at Como plant

ECHEMI 2024-02-18

AkzoNobel's powder coatings plant completes major capacity expansion in Como, Italy. This will help ensure supply to customers in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA).

Following a €21 million project, four new production lines are now in operation. Two are dedicated to automotive primers and two are dedicated to architectural coatings. A new bonding equipment production line has also been added. This will ensure products meet and exceed industry standards.

"Increasing our capabilities in Como is an important milestone. It supports our ambition to create supply security for our customers." Sanal Limoncuoglu, Commercial Director of AkzoNobel’s Powder Coatings business in Southern and Eastern Europe (S&EE) and Middle East Africa (MEA) said. "We are now ready to serve all customers in the EMEA region. We can offer efficient production lines that are state-of-the-art in terms of consistency and quality."

Como's additional capacity has been installed in a renovated building that originally produced powder coatings. This is a sustainable reuse of an existing part of the site. The new production line also uses recycled energy. AkzoNobel is committed to meeting the highest standards of sustainable production. This will support the company’s ambition to reduce carbon emissions by 50% by 2030.

AkzoNobel's Como plant is the company's largest powder coating production facility. It offers products for seven major market segments, including home appliances, construction, automobiles, agricultural and construction machinery, trade painters, furniture and general industry.
