ECHEMI 2024-02-18

Henkel signs an agreement to acquire US-based Seal for Life Industries (Seal for Life) from Arsenal Capital Partners (US). Seal for Life is a specialist supplier of protective coatings and sealing solutions. It serves various infrastructure markets including renewable energy, oil and gas, and water.

There is a growing need for solutions that can extend the life of infrastructure assets. This is driven by aging infrastructure and the growing relevance of sustainability. Seal for Life provides innovative, proven coating and sealing solutions for existing and new infrastructure assets. This will prompt Henkel to add attractive technologies to its growing MRO platform.

"Strategic acquisitions that actively shape and strengthen our product portfolio are an integral part of our purposeful growth agenda. Seal for Life offers an attractive and profitable product portfolio in the protective coatings and sealing segment. It perfectly complements our existing maintenance, repair and overhaul market platform. " said Carsten Knobel, CEO of Henkel, "Our Adhesive Technologies business has growth potential. "

In 2023, Seal for Life generated sales of approximately €250 million. The business provides innovative coating and sealing products. This includes visco-elastic coatings, epoxy & urethane coatings and fire protection. It also offers heat-shrink sleeves, insulation and sound dampening coatings.

Application expertise for these solutions is marketed under different industry brands. These include STOPAQ®, CANUSA®, COVALENCE®, LIFELAST®. They are pioneers in protecting and transforming customer infrastructure of all kinds. This includes pipes and piles.

"Maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) is a strategic growth market for us. This offers huge opportunities for innovative solutions. It helps protect, retrofit and digitalize infrastructure condition monitoring. At the same time, it also helps sustainability," said Mark Dorn, Executive Vice President and Head of Adhesive Technologies business of Henkel.

"This transaction marks another cornerstone in our efforts to create and develop a growth platform within our MRO business. It will enable us to further expand our product range in sustainability-driven, future-focused markets. Potential markets include renewable energy and water supply," Dorn added.
