Basf launches innovative insecticide Efficon® in India, containing Group 36's only ingredient, Dimpropyridaz
Basf has launched its innovative insecticide Efficon® in the Indian market, containing the Active ingredient Axalion®Active (Dimpropyridaz), to tackle the country's intractable sting pest problem.
Dimpropyridaz has been designated by the Insecticide Resistance Action Committee (IRAC) as a new and unique mode of action, Group 36, and is the only member of that group. As the first insecticide introduced into Group 36, the unique advantage of Efficon® lies in its novel mode of action, which not only effectively kills aphids, leafhoppers, whiteflies and other pests at multiple growth stages, but also has the characteristics of rapid action, endosorbitive transmission and long-term residual control. The product is expected to take effect within 2 hours of application.
On December 9, 2022, BASF Australia registered its Dimpropyridaz technical (≥950 g/kg) and 120.0 g/L Dimpropyridaz Sol (trade name: Efficon™) in Australia. This is Efficon® 's official entry into India, where Phillips McDougall expects peak annual sales of Dimpropyridaz to exceed $100 million.
Basf said that the introduction of Efficon® will help farmers solve the problem that has long been a problem in Indian agriculture, causing up to 35% to 40% of crop production losses in the country. According to the data, in 2023, BASF's agricultural solutions division achieved global sales of 10.1 billion euros and invested 900 million euros in research and development. In India, the company has 2,335 employees, 8 production sites and 42 offices, with sales of about 2.4 billion euros that year.
