Henkel Plans to Acquire Swiss Adhesive Specialist ATP Adhesive Systems, Expanding Its Sustainable Tape Portfolio

ECHEMI 2026-01-21

German chemical and consumer goods group Henkel is advancing a major strategic expansion by signing an agreement with U.S.-based investment firm Arsenal Capital Partners to acquire ATP Adhesive Systems, a Switzerland-headquartered specialist in high-performance adhesive products. The transaction marks an important step for Henkel in strengthening its position in adhesive technologies, particularly within the fast-growing specialty tape segment.

ATP Adhesive Systems is well known for its advanced water-based specialty tapes, which feature low volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions and are considered environmentally friendly alternatives to traditional solvent-based products. The company’s solutions are widely used across a range of end-use industries, including automotive manufacturing, electronics, medical applications, construction, and graphic design. With operations in both Europe and North America, ATP is expected to generate approximately €270 million in revenue in fiscal year 2025 and employs around 700 people worldwide. Its strong technological capabilities and diversified product portfolio are seen as a strategic complement to Henkel’s existing offerings.

Henkel CEO Carsten Knobel stated that the acquisition is an integral part of the company’s growth strategy, which focuses on value-accretive mergers and acquisitions. He emphasized that ATP’s portfolio not only strengthens Henkel’s Adhesive Technologies business unit but also aligns closely with Henkel’s sustainability ambitions. More than 90% of ATP’s products are based on water-based technologies, helping reduce carbon footprints and meet the rising demand for greener industrial solutions.

Mark Dorn, Head of Henkel’s Adhesive Technologies division, added that the acquisition will significantly enhance Henkel’s competitiveness in the specialty tape market. Beyond expanding the product range, the transaction is expected to support future innovation and technology investments. ATP’s modern production facilities and strong research and development capabilities are anticipated to accelerate Henkel’s growth across a broader spectrum of adhesive solutions.

The acquisition is subject to customary closing conditions, including regulatory approvals. Financial details of the transaction have not been disclosed.
