Sherwin-Williams Packaging Coatings expands non-BPA coatings production in Europe

After years of investment, Sherwin-Williams Packaging Coatings has completed expansions of its facilities in Deeside, UK, and Tourny, France, to begin production of valPure V70 coating for beverage cans. Increased production in Europe facilitates customer partnerships to meet growing demand in the region and demand for non-bisphenol A (NBPA) packaging coatings amid pending European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) restrictions on BPA. The factories are currently producing the valPure V70 series in volume for markets in Europe, the Middle East, Africa and India.

"valPure V70 represents the future of light metal encapsulated epoxy coatings. To meet growing demand for the product line, Sherwin-Williams has initiated a plan to invest in expansion in the region, modernizing our beverage coatings R&D lab in France, and installing new reactor systems in the UK and France."

V70 is a new generation of BPA-free epoxy can coating technology designed to meet the stringent standards of the metal packaging industry. It offers all the performance benefits of epoxy coatings, including superior application performance, excellent odor retention and industry-leading corrosion resistance, without the use of BPA.

"V70 was developed under our Design for Safety protocol, which includes screening and rigorous testing of materials to ensure not only current compliance, but that the product will withstand scientific rigor over the long term," Marchman said. "We are truly committed to providing the industry with long-term, effective coating alternatives."
