EU Revises MRLs for Four Pesticides in Select Food Products
In a recent development, the European Union has published Regulation (EU) 2024/1342, which revises the maximum residue limits (MRLs) for four pesticides in certain food products. The pesticides affected are deltamethrin, metalaxyl, thiabendazole, and trifloxystrobin.
According to the official EU publication, the regulation amends Annex II of Regulation (EC) No 396/2005, updating the MRLs for these four pesticides in various food commodities. The changes are as follows:
1. Deltamethrin:
- Citrus fruits (code 0110010): 0.02 mg/kg
- Tree nuts (code 0120010): 0.01 mg/kg
- Apples (code 0130010): 0.2 mg/kg
- Sorghum (code 0500080): 2 mg/kg
- Strawberries (code 0632010): 9 mg/kg
- Spices (code 0820040): 0.05 mg/kg
2. Metalaxyl:
- Citrus fruits (code 0110010): 0.7 mg/kg
- Tree nuts (code 0120010): 0.01 mg/kg
- Apples (code 0130010): 0.01 mg/kg
- Sorghum (code 0500080): 0.01 mg/kg
- Strawberries (code 0632010): 0.05 mg/kg
- Spices (code 0820040): 0.05 mg/kg
3. Thiabendazole:
- Citrus fruits (code 0110010): 7 mg/kg
- Tree nuts (code 0120010): 0.02 mg/kg
- Apples (code 0130010): 4 mg/kg
- Sorghum (code 0500080): 0.01 mg/kg
- Strawberries (code 0632010): 0.05 mg/kg
- Spices (code 0820040): 0.05 mg/kg
4. Trifloxystrobin:
- Citrus fruits (code 0110010): 0.5 mg/kg
- Tree nuts (code 0120010): 0.02 mg/kg
- Apples (code 0130010): 0.7 mg/kg
- Sorghum (code 0500080): 0.01 mg/kg
- Strawberries (code 0632010): 0.05 mg/kg
- Spices (code 0820040): 0.05 mg/kg
The regulation will enter into force 20 days after its publication in the Official Journal of the European Union and will be applicable from June 11, 2024. This update in MRLs aims to ensure the safety and quality of food products within the EU market.
