Dow partners with Freepoint Eco-Systems to transform plastic waste into circular products

ECHEMI 2024-05-28

Dow and Freepoint Eco-Systems have signed a supply agreement to convert 65,000 metric tons of plastic waste per year into circular feedstock, aiming to support a circular economy for plastics in North America.

Freepoint Eco-Systems is building a state-of-the-art recycling facility in Arizona that will be ISCC Plus certified and capable of processing end-of-life plastic waste. Dow will be the exclusive off-taker for the first phase of the facility, converting certified recycled liquid supplies into virgin-grade equivalent plastics for use in a variety of applications, including food-grade and medical packaging. The facility is expected to begin operations in 2026 and will have a total capacity to recycle approximately 180,000 tonnes of plastic waste per year.

The partnership marks an important step toward Dow’s goal of "transforming waste" to address plastic pollution and reduce reliance on fossil feedstocks. By partnering with Freepoint Eco-Systems, Dow aims to build a strong portfolio of circular feedstock supplies and promote sustainable economic growth in the region. This move reflects the two companies’ commitment to advancing the circular economy and developing innovative plastic waste recycling solutions.
