Blockbuster Deal: Cstone Pharmaceuticals Partners with Ewopharma to Expand Global Reach of Sugemalimab

ECHEMI 2024-05-28

In a groundbreaking move, Cstone Pharmaceuticals, a leading biopharmaceutical company focused on oncology, has announced a strategic commercial partnership with Ewopharma, a prominent European pharmaceutical company. The deal grants Ewopharma the commercial rights to Cstone's flagship anti-PD-L1 monoclonal antibody, sugemalimab, in Switzerland and 18 Central and Eastern European (CEE) countries.

The partnership is set to unlock the full potential of sugemalimab in the European market, benefiting patients across the region. Under the license and commercialization agreement, Cstone will receive an upfront payment of up to $51.3 million, as well as subsequent regulatory and sales milestones. In return, Ewopharma will handle pricing, reimbursement, marketing, and distribution activities, while Cstone will focus on product supply and providing necessary brand support.

"Sugemalimab has demonstrated exceptional efficacy in multiple clinical trials, and has already secured five indications in China, covering advanced non-small cell lung cancer, gastric cancer, esophageal squamous cell carcinoma, and extranodal NK/T-cell lymphoma," said Dr. Frank Yang, CEO, R&D President, and Executive Director of Cstone Pharmaceuticals. "With Ewopharma's extensive experience and extensive channels in the CEE markets, this partnership will maximize the clinical and commercial potential of sugemalimab in Europe, ultimately benefiting more patients."

Alain Staub, CEO and Chairman of the Board of Ewopharma, expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration, stating, "Sugemalimab is an innovative therapy that will further expand our oncology portfolio and enable us to make a meaningful contribution to health equity in Switzerland and the CEE region. This partnership will bring new hope to patients and healthcare professionals, as lung cancer is the third most common cancer and a leading cause of cancer-related deaths in Europe."

The strategic alliance between Cstone and Ewopharma represents a significant milestone in the global commercialization of sugemalimab. By leveraging Ewopharma's expertise and market presence in the CEE region, Cstone aims to ensure that this promising cancer therapy reaches a wider patient population and contributes to improving treatment outcomes for those battling advanced-stage cancers.
