AkzoNobel Launches New Powder Coating for Two-Wheelers

ECHEMI 2024-05-29

Motorcycle manufacturers can now start saving costs and energy with the launch of Interpon A3000 from AkzoNobel’s Powder Coatings business. As the company’s first single-coat powder coating for two-wheelers, the new product helps customers accelerate efficiency without compromising performance or aesthetics.

Interpon A3000 is particularly focused on the key Indian market, which is home to more than 200 million two-wheelers. It is estimated that more than 18 million two-wheelers were sold in India last year alone. The product will also be available globally.

Jeff Jirak, Director of AkzoNobel’s Powder Coatings business, explains: "The new range offers motorcycle manufacturers and their suppliers the perfect combination of sustainability, durability and modern design style. With a single-coat system, we can help reduce costs for our customers as application time is significantly reduced, helping to lower their carbon footprint."

Available in a wide range of colours and metallic effects, Interpon A3000 is designed to protect and enhance body parts, wheels and trims of any two-wheeler, in line with OEM-specified, tested and approved performance levels. It is also designed to cater to the ‘naked’ design trend, where the engine and other components of a motorcycle, such as the body frame, fuel tank, brake levers and cylinder head, are clearly visible.

One of the key features of the product range is durability. It helps prevent corrosion, resists interference from fuels, oils and other chemicals, and has a high resistance to chipping from stones and pebbles – all of which keeps vehicles looking great for longer. A low-energy version will also be available, enabling the powder to cure at lower temperatures, further reducing energy consumption. This will play an important role in helping the company achieve its goal of halving carbon emissions across the value chain by 2030.
