EU Reports Substandard Pearl Milk Tea Ingredients Exported from Taiwan Region of China

ECHEMI 2024-06-06

On June 5, 2024, Ireland reported through the EU's Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF) that pearl milk tea ingredients (agar pearl jelly pearls) exported from the Taiwan region of China were found to be non-compliant.

According to the RASFF notification, the issue was that the ingredients contained unauthorized food additives. As a result, the receiving country did not distribute the product and recalled it from the recipient.

This serves as a reminder to export companies to strictly follow the import requirements of destination countries. Exporters must ensure they do not use any substances that are not authorized in the target markets, in order to guarantee the safety of food and related products, thereby avoiding export risks.

The EU's RASFF system plays a crucial role in sharing information about food and feed safety issues detected in the European market. It allows for a rapid exchange of information between member states and the European Commission to facilitate the swift removal of risky products from the market.

Companies exporting to the EU should stay up-to-date on the latest RASFF notifications and proactively ensure their products meet all relevant standards and regulations. Consulting experts on EU import compliance can help mitigate potential issues and safeguard a company's exports.
