Unraveling the Precise Window and Molecular Mechanisms Governing Egg White Quality in Laying Hens

ECHEMI 2024-08-05

Recently, the poultry Nutrition and Feed innovation team at the Feed Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences has made a milestone breakthrough in improving the scientific nature of laying hens. Taking Hy-line brown laying hens, which are widely used in the world, as the research objects, they successfully identified the critical time points of egg white quality decline through sophisticated experiments and in-depth analysis, which opened up a new path for research in this field.

After a long period of careful observation and data analysis, the research team revealed a key physiological turning point: after 60 weeks of age, the egg white quality of Hy-line brown laying hens will show a significant decline. This finding is not accidental, but closely related to the physiological changes of chickens, including the weakening of antioxidant capacity, the aging of reproductive organs, and the down-regulation of the expression of genes related to protein synthesis and secretion. These in-depth findings provide a solid scientific basis for the precise regulation of egg white quality and help us to understand the growth and aging of laying hens more comprehensively.

This innovative research was supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China and the Science and Technology Innovation Program of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences. These projects not only provide necessary research funds and resources, but also create a research environment that encourages exploration and innovation for researchers, which fully reflects the strong strength and enterprizing spirit of Chinese research institutions in solving practical agricultural problems.

Based on this breakthrough, we hope to develop more precise and efficient egg white quality control technology. This will not only significantly improve the economic benefits of laying hens, effectively reduce the waste of resources caused by the decline in egg white quality, but also provide consumers with better quality and safer egg products, further promote the green and sustainable development of China's breeding industry, and contribute to the realization of agricultural modernization.
