European Union Assesses the Safety of Pullulanase Enzyme Produced by Non-Genetically Modified Pullulanibacillus Naganoensis Strain AE-PL
On July 31, 2024, the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) officially published a detailed opinion on the safety assessment of a food enzyme called Pullulanase. This important decision not only brings a new dawn to the food industry, but also provides consumers with a more secure basis for food choices. Pullulanase, a wonder substance derived from the non-genetically modified strain of Pullulanibacillus naganoensis AE-PL, is beginning to reveal its potential for widespread use in modern food production.
Pullulanase, as a hydrolase specifically targeting complex carbohydrates such as Pullulan polysaccharides, plays an indispensable role in the food industry due to its unique enzymatic properties. It effectively breaks down these polysaccharides, thereby improving the texture, taste and stability of the food. The Pullulanase evaluated by the European Food Safety Authority is based on the careful cultivation and extraction of this strain AE-PL, ensuring its purity and high efficiency.
During the evaluation process, EFSA's expert panel conducted a comprehensive and in-depth analysis of Pullulanase. They not only considered the chemical properties and biological activity of the enzyme itself, but also focused on assessing its safety under the conditions of intended use. Using a large amount of experimental data and scientific calculations, the expert group came to an exciting conclusion: there is a surprisingly safe margin between the intended consumption dose and the non-toxic dose of this pullulanase - at least 160,750 times. This figure not only highlights the high safety of Pullulanase, but also provides strong scientific support for the food industry.
It is worth noting that the pullulanase evaluated in this study was produced by non-GMO technology. In the current global context of the safety of genetically modified food is still controversial, the application of this technology has undoubtedly won more consumers' favor for Pullulanase. The selection of non-transgenic Cyprulan Nagano not only ensures the pure natural properties of enzyme products, but also avoids potential risks that may be caused by genetic modification.
