Green Pyramid Biotech and Holiferm Partner to Trial Biosurfactants in a Range of Products
Green Pyramid Biotech and Holiferm have partnered to trial biosurfactants in a range of products. They are embarking on a project to trial Holiferm’s sophorolipids in a number of different formulations, including surface cleaners, hand and dishwashing liquids. The sophorolipids will also be tested in a range of agricultural products, including spreaders, stickers, biopesticides and drip irrigation adjuvants.
These tests will be conducted at the Green Pyramid facility at the NCL Innovation Park. They will consider factors such as formulation stability, compatibility with other ingredients, and regulatory approvals in the region. Conducting small-scale trials and testing helps determine the best concentrations and application methods for specific needs in surface cleaning and agricultural formulations.
Green Pyramid’s mission is to develop a state-of-the-art R&D center, manufacturing plant, health and professional care division, business development forum and an education center with a focus on clean, green energy and technology, producing environmentally friendly products and services. They are dedicated to research, product development and manufacturing of best-in-class innovative products and solutions to solve problems in the fields of agriculture, food, cosmetics and general health. This led them to develop a range of formulations.
Holiferm was founded on the patented gravity separation technology developed at the University of Manchester. As a company, the company aims to disrupt the market and replace all petrochemically produced surfactants with natural biosurfactants. They use yeast extracted from honey to produce biosurfactants in a continuous cycle process, which not only makes it more economically viable, but also more environmentally friendly. Biosurfactants can be applied to many products in the home, including cosmetics, skin care, shower gels and hand soaps. Currently, there are three products on the market: HoneySurf, HoliSurf and AgriSurf. They are all available in LF and HF versions. LF is highly lactonic and produces less foam. HF is highly acidic and produces a lot of foam.
Speaking about the new partnership, Ben Dolman, Co-founder and CEO of Holiferm, noted: "At Holiferm, we have no competitors, only companies we haven't worked with yet. Partnering with Green Pyramid is an exciting development for us. We like their mission and focus on clean and green technologies, which combine perfectly with our own to make chemical manufacturing more sustainable and environmentally friendly."
