Verbio expands in the US to produce bioethanol and biomethane

ECHEMI 2024-08-22

Verbio announces significant progress in North America. These developments are evidence of the successful expansion of its business and underscore its commitment to innovation and growth.

Verbio has begun commercial ethanol production from corn at its Nevada, Iowa facility. The biomethane line was successfully commissioned in March and has now been converted to use waste streams from bioethanol production.

The co-production process of bioethanol and biomethane is one of Verbio's unique selling points, which has been successfully used in Verbio's German facility for more than a decade and is continuing to develop. Verbio's biorefinery in Nevada is the first industrial-scale co-production plant of biomethane and bioethanol in North America, proving that Verbio also has a competitive advantage in the United States.

The biorefinery has a capacity of 180,000 tons of bioethanol and 680,000 MWh of biomethane and is expected to reach full capacity in six to nine months. The biomethane will be fed into the regional gas network and can be used as a renewable energy source or biofuel for industrial applications in the voluntary market.
