Chemical Industry Winter Warning! 10 Million Tons of Capacity Suspended, Multiple Industry Giants Hit by Production Shutdowns, with the Longest Maintenance Reaching 55 Days!
In addition to the high-profile MDI, recently, a number of chemical companies announced parking maintenance, resulting in the suspension of the production of dozens of chemical products such as DMF, PVC, and phthalic anhydride, affecting about 10 million tons of capacity.
Hualu Hengsheng announced that it will conduct a shutdown overhaul of a coal gasification plant and some product production plants for about 20 days. All the equipment of Sinopec Jianghan Salt Chemical Hubei Co., Ltd. has been completely stopped, marking the official start of the 2024 annual overhaul of the equipment. Fukang Energy is about to start the major overhaul in 2024, of which the electrolytic workshop will carry out 61 maintenance projects, the vinyl chloride workshop has 54 maintenance tasks, the PVC workshop has 28 maintenance operations, and the power workshop has 23 parking maintenance projects. China Salt Inner Mongolia Chemical's 2024 chlor-alkali system parking overhaul is about to be fully launched, involving the comprehensive parking overhaul of chlor-alkali, resin and polymer production systems, which is expected to last 55 days, involving a total of 1192 maintenance projects. The production plant of Shaanxi Dongxinyuan Chemical will also be stopped one after another, and the annual overhaul of 298 maintenance projects is planned to last 45 days.
Jilin Petrochemical Dye plant is carefully planning the overhaul work, the overhaul will include isobutylene equipment, MIBK equipment and other 6 sets of production equipment, and the public engineering system and phenol old equipment, pipeline overhaul. Nanya Plastics Industry (Ningbo) Phase II of the 170,000 tons/year bisphenol A plant from July 16 to August 31 for shutdown maintenance. Shell's 350,000 tons/year phenol ketone plant began maintenance in early July, and the restart time has not yet been determined. The 100,000 tons/year DMF device of Henan Ruibo New Materials has been fully stopped for maintenance, and the opening time is not yet certain. The 60,000 tons/year high shun butadiene rubber device of Haopu New Materials is planned to be stopped and repaired from August 1, 2024, and the restart time is to be determined. The total output capacity of the three sets of Taihua optical PC is 200,000 tons/year, and the overall load of the injection molding grade first line (60,000 tons/year), the second line (65,000 tons/year) and the optical grade device (75,000 tons/year) is low, which is planned to be repaired for a month in mid-August. Yanhua carbon PC's two production lines, each of which has a capacity of 30,000 tons/year, have entered the parking maintenance state in August 2023, and there is no exact recovery date at present.
The 120,000 tons/year DMF device of Guizhou Tianfu Chemical Co., Ltd. is being stopped and repaired. Inner Mongolia Xinzhongjia PVC device has been stopped for maintenance, the manufacturer plans to resume work at the end of the month, and the current price is not available. The production capacity of the PVC device is 300,000 tons. The propylene oxide unit of Jiangsu Ruiheng New Material is being stopped for maintenance and is scheduled to restart in mid-late August. The low-voltage device with an annual capacity of 300,000 tons of North Huajin PE device began to stop for maintenance on July 11, and is scheduled to restart on August 30. The 300,000-ton/year coal-to-methanol plant in Shilin, Inner Mongolia, is being stopped for maintenance and is expected to restart around September 20. Xinlianxin's 120,000-ton melamine-producing plant in Xinjiang is undergoing shutdown maintenance and plans to resume production by the end of the month. Hengli Dalian's 5# 2.5 million tons PTA plant began maintenance on August 17. Shandong Hongxin Chemical's phthalic anhydride unit has a production capacity of 180,000 tons, and it has also been stopped and repaired recently, and the restart time has not been determined, and the manufacturer does not offer external prices at present.
Shell Netherlands closed operations at the Moredijk Chemical Park, which involved a cracker containing 900,000 tonnes per annum of ethylene and 510,000 tonnes per annum of propylene.
According to incomplete statistics, dozens of enterprises in steel, cement, chemical and other industries have recently announced production suspension for maintenance, and some enterprises have even announced long-term production suspension and staff holidays to ease cost pressure and maintain capital flow, while looking forward to improving the imbalance between supply and demand. With the traditional sales season "gold nine silver ten" approaching, many enterprises have not yet shown signs of resumption of work, for this peak season, enterprises may hold a wait-and-see attitude.
