Chinese Food Products Face Unprecedented Rejection in the US, 913 Batches Banned by FDA Due to Safety Issues!
According to the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) released the third quarter of 2024 (specifically covering July to September) import product rejection report, Food Partners conducted a systematic summary and in-depth analysis of the corresponding data. According to the study, 913 batches of products originating in China were rejected by the FDA for import during the quarter, of which 129 batches were exclusively food products.
For these rejected foods, the main reasons behind it can be summarized as follows: suspected of adding unsafe additives, failing to meet the standards of labeling, part or the whole of the food body in a corrupt state, and doping with other unfit substances. The specific reasons and corresponding statistics are as follows:
* Artificial color: A total of 5 batches;
* Suspected to contain unsafe colorant: 8 batches;
* Other reasons not clearly classified: total of 12 batches;
* Excessive residue of agricultural and veterinary drugs: accumulated 15 batches;
* The health status of the processing link is not up to standard: a total of 4 batches;
* Suspected unsafe additives: a total of 51 batches;
Use of unsafe animal new drugs: 17 batches;
* Appearance or characteristics appear to indicate that they are unfit for consumption: 20 batches;
* Label identification does not meet the specified requirements: a total of 38 batches;
* Suspected toxic and harmful substances: a total of 25 batches;
* Present in whole or in part in a rotten state, or contain other inedible substances: a total of 25 batches.
In addition, some products were rejected due to the following additional factors: Failure to declare allergenic ingredients (2 cases), salmonella detected (1 case), use of an unapproved new drug (2 cases), failure of the manufacturer to register as a manufacturer of low-acid canning food or acidified food (3 cases), illegal use of chemical preservatives (1 case), addition of artificial flavors (1 case), And labels or logos containing unauthorized nutrition facts or health claims (2 cases).
The above data deeply reveals the shortcomings in the safety, compliance and quality management of China's food exports to the United States. In this regard, relevant enterprises and regulatory authorities need to attach great importance to and actively take effective measures to improve the quality and safety level of food exports, so as to reduce the economic losses and reputation damage caused by failure to meet the standards of importing countries.
