BASF opens new water-based dispersions line in Heerenveen, the Netherlands, to optimize its ink and coating solutions

ECHEMI 2024-11-06

BASF recently officially launched its new water-based dispersion production line in Heerenveen, the Netherlands. With this new production line, production capacity will be significantly increased without generating additional CO2 emissions. The expansion is based on existing facilities.

The new production line will be powered by electricity, with green power provided by wind farms operated jointly by BASF and European energy companies Vattenfall and Allianz Europe.

The new production line will significantly increase the production capacity of products such as Joncryl and Acronal Pro. Joncryl is a water-based polymer product used in environmentally friendly inks for food packaging that retain color longer and are less harmful to the environment. Acronal Pro water-based polymers provide high-quality and durable solutions for optimizing the color and shine of paints and varnishes.

The Heerenveen site has existing infrastructure and expertise, making it ideal for this investment. Sjoerd Visser concludes: “This is a difficult time for our industry in Europe, as we face the challenges of climate neutrality, circularity, digitalization and the implementation of the EU Chemicals Sustainability Strategy. Our site in Heerenveen The innovation team is committed to solving these problems and we hope to continue to be an important player in Europe for our customers.”

“I am proud that we have achieved this expansion without increasing CO2 emissions. Our plants aim to be CO2-neutral and contribute to BASF’s climate protection goals. At the same time, we want to continue to grow and serve our customers Offering products with a lower ecological footprint.”
