DHL Collaborates with Shell to Reduce Emissions by 80,000 Tons in a Year!

DHL Express and global energy giant Shell have signed a partnership agreement to jointly promote sustainable air freight at Brussels Airport. The one-year agreement involves the transport by pipeline of 25,000 tonnes of sustainable aviation fuel certified by the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification Scheme to Brussels Airport. The move is expected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by about 80,000 tons of carbon dioxide equivalent compared to conventional fossil fuels. These sustainable aviation fuels are produced in fossil fuel refineries using renewable feedstocks instead of conventional crude oil. DHL Express provides its customers with sustainable aviation fuel through its GoGreen Plus service, which uses a "carbon embedding" approach to help customers meet their "Scope 3" emission reduction targets.

The DHL GoGreen Plus service is designed to help customers reduce emissions in their logistics supply chain, including downstream transport and distribution, using a "carbon embedded" approach through the use of sustainable aviation fuels (Scope 3). Unlike the "carbon offset" approach, the DHL GoGreen Plus service directly reduces greenhouse gas emissions in the logistics process.

DHL is committed to achieving net zero emissions related to logistics by 2050. The GoGreen Plus service is designed to help achieve this goal. According to its Sustainability Roadmap, DHL Express plans to increase the mix of sustainable aviation fuels in air transport to 30% by 2030.

DHL Express officially launched GoGreen Plus in February 2023, and over the past year, the service has helped nearly 70,000 companies in China meet their air transport emission reduction targets.
