Saint-Gobain Expands Its Construction Chemicals Operations in Indonesia
Saint-Gobain has taken a significant step to reinforce its position in Indonesia’s construction chemicals market.
The global leader in light and sustainable construction has entered into a joint venture with a subsidiary of Indocement Tunggal Prakarsa, one of Indonesia’s largest cement producers, to acquire Indocement’s mortar business in the country. Indocement Tunggal Prakarsa is a publicly listed cement company in which Heidelberg Materials holds a 53% stake. Under the terms of the joint venture, Saint-Gobain will own 60% of the new entity, while Indocement Tunggal Prakarsa will retain the remaining 40%.
Indocement’s mortar activities operate under the Tiga Roda brand, a well-established name in the Indonesian market. The business currently runs three production lines and is expected to generate close to €20 million in sales by 2025.
“Tiga Roda is a leading brand in the white plaster segment and is highly complementary to Saint-Gobain’s existing mortar operations under the Cipta Mortar Utama (CMU) brand, both in terms of product range and geographic coverage,” the company stated. “This combination strengthens our proximity to customers across Indonesia.”
Saint-Gobain has been active in Indonesia since 1995 and currently operates 14 production lines, employing approximately 1,300 people. Its local subsidiary, CMU, is the market leader, with eight mortar production lines, a broad product portfolio, and nearly 30,000 points of sale nationwide.
CMU also benefits from Saint-Gobain’s broader footprint in construction chemicals, supported by its GCP brand, which specializes in concrete admixtures and cement additives, and FOSROC, known for cement additives, resin flooring, and technical mortars.
The newly formed joint venture is designed to leverage the combined strengths of CMU and Indocement to accelerate growth in Indonesia’s fast-expanding mortar market.
“This acquisition is part of Saint-Gobain’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its strategic positioning, in line with the Group’s ‘Lead & Grow’ plan,” the company said. “It reinforces Saint-Gobain’s presence in a high-growth market and fully aligns with its ambition to expand its global leadership in construction chemicals.”
