Yihai Kerry successfully unloaded China's first batch of RSPO-IP grade sustainable palm oil

ECHEMI 2024-11-27

On November 22, after more than 20 days of sailing, the cargo ship OOCL NEW ZEALAND, carrying China’s first batch of RSPO-IP grade sustainable palm oil, successfully arrived at Shanghai Gaodong Port from Pasigudang, Malaysia to complete the unloading. This batch of RSPO-IP grade sustainable palm oil was purchased and imported by Yihai Kerry Group, responsible for production and processing, and finally delivered to downstream customers. This is the first transaction of RSPO-IP grade sustainable palm oil in China.

The arrival ceremony of this batch of palm oil was grandly held at Shanghai Kerry Cereals, Oils and Food Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Yihai Kerry. Relevant leaders attended and witnessed this milestone moment together.

Cao Derong, President of China Chamber of Commerce of Import and Export of Foodstuffs, Native Produce and Animal Products, said in his speech that Identity Preserved—is the highest level of RSPO sustainable palm oil certification, which completes the complete traceability from the supply chain terminal to the source, and has higher requirements for supply chain management. This is the first time that Chinese companies have purchased IP-grade RSPO sustainable palm oil. As China's largest international trade industry organization for food and agricultural products, China Chamber of Commerce of Import and Export of Foodstuffs, Native Produce and Animal Products hopes to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with more relevant companies and institutions, unite and cooperate on sustainable agricultural development issues such as palm oil, and jointly seek a harmonious coexistence between man and nature.

Fang Lifeng, head of the Roundtable Initiative for Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) in China, shared the progress and achievements of RSPO in China and affirmed the contribution of this transaction to the sustainable development of palm oil in China. He congratulated Shanghai Kerry Food Industry Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Wilmar International, on obtaining RSPO-IP model certification and becoming the first factory in China to obtain this certification. He said that the arrival of the first batch of IP-certified sustainable palm oil marks a positive step for China to increase its purchase of RSPO-certified sustainable palm oil. The commitment of more and more Chinese companies to sustainable development will accelerate the market demand for sustainable palm oil. He also pointed out that the RSPO-certified palm oil purchased by Wilmar International in 2023 accounted for more than 20% of China's RSPO palm oil imports, setting a benchmark for other companies in the industry and providing a successful example for reference.

As a leading palm oil trader and processor in China, Wilmar International Group has actively set an example of best practices in responsible procurement and sustainable trade. Over the years, it has purchased and processed palm oil products that meet the needs of its customers and has the ability to supply RSPO-MB (Mass balance) and RSPO-SG (Segregated Module) sustainable palm oil. After its subsidiary Shanghai Kerry Food Industry Co., Ltd. obtained RSPO-IP certification, the group has expanded its supply capacity of RSPO-IP sustainable palm oil. Wilmar International will establish closer cooperative relationships with industry leaders and relevant parties to achieve common sustainable development goals.
