Monthly Drop Nears 5%! Acrylic Acid Prices Fall Below Average, Decline Officially Confirmed
April 23 news
I. This Week’s Core Market Trends:
According to Spotcom monitoring, as of April 23, 2026, the benchmark price for high-quality acrylic acid in East China was reported at 12,483.33 CNY/ton. Compared to early April (13,116.67 CNY/ton), the price has fallen by 633.34 CNY/ton within the month, a decrease of 4.83%. This week (April 20-23), the price dropped rapidly, quickly breaking through the 12,500 CNY/ton mark from the initial platform of 12,883.33 CNY/ton at the beginning of the week. The price fell by 1.03% on April 21 and another 2.09% on April 22, with a cumulative decrease of over 3% in two days, indicating a concentrated release of the momentum for a high-level correction.
From a long-term trend perspective, acrylic acid experienced a doubling in price from February to March, with prices soaring from around 6,000 CNY/ton to over 13,000 CNY/ton, reaching a high of 13,116.67 CNY/ton. However, after entering April, the upward trend came to an abrupt halt. Prices oscillated at a high level before turning downward. The accelerated decline this week officially marked the end of the one-sided upward trend, and the market entered a channel of high-level correction.
II. SpotTong System Signal Indication: The bearish trend has been fully established.
1. Key Indicators:
The average difference (10-day moving average - 20-day moving average) is a core indicator for judging trends. From the trend in China:
Around April 11, the 10-day moving average (red line) crossed below the 20-day moving average (cyan line), with the difference between the averages turning from positive to negative, sending a clear signal of a decline/adjustment.
Thereafter, the 10-day moving average continued to run below the 20-day moving average, and the gap between the two moving averages kept widening. The difference between the two averages has entered a negative expansion zone, indicating that downward momentum is accelerating and a bearish trend has formed.
2. Auxiliary Indicators:
The spot trading cycle position indicator shows:
In the short term (10/20/30 days), all positions are in the “low” range, and the system has issued “10-day oversold, 20-day oversold, 30-day oversold” signals, indicating that the short-term decline has been too rapid and there is a technical demand for a rebound.
The long-term (60/90 days/1 year) position remains in the “high” range, and the “1-year overextension” signal persists. Prices are still at the high levels seen over the past year, with substantial pressure from profit-taking and trapped positions above, limiting the room for a rebound.
III. Fundamentals:
1. Supply Side: The loose supply situation continues to be evident. Maintenance at Chinese acrylic acid plants is gradually coming to an end, and operating rates are rebounding. Coupled with BASF’s suspension of auctions for acrylic acid products, this has shattered earlier market expectations of tight imported supplies. The absence of high-priced anchor prices, combined with increased willingness among companies to sell off their inventories, is jointly driving spot prices lower.
2. Demand side: Downstream resistance to high acrylic acid prices has intensified, with insufficient follow-up from rigid demand. Cost transmission is not smooth, and the overall purchasing attitude in the industry is cautious. The demand side remains weak, making it difficult to provide effective support for prices.
3. Cost End: Although the price of propylene, the core raw material for acrylic acid, is still at a high level, it has recently shown a slight decline. The cost support for acrylic acid prices continues to weaken. The loosening of cost support and the reversal of supply and demand dynamics have made the decline in acrylic acid prices lack significant resistance.
IV. Future Market Forecast:
Combining the trend signals from the Spotcommodity Market Analysis System with fundamental changes, the following forecast is made for the price trend of acrylic acid in China:
In the short term, although the 10/20/30-day positions are already at a low level, indicating a need for a technical rebound, the negative expansion of the average difference and the long-term overbought signals suggest that the bearish trend has not changed. It is expected that the price of acrylic acid will remain in a weak fluctuation, with the core fluctuation range being 12,000-12,500 CNY per ton. The 12,800-13,000 CNY per ton range has formed a strong resistance level, limiting the height of any rebound. If there is no improvement in demand, it is not impossible for the price to break below the 12,000 CNY per ton mark.
V. Summary:
This week, the acrylic acid market in China officially established a downward trend amid supply and demand competition, with prices decreasing by nearly 5% within the month. The previous one-sided upward trend has come to an end. Spot market data shows that the signal of the moving average crossing downwards and the negative expansion has confirmed the bearish trend. Both short-term overselling and long-term overbuying coexist, and the pressure for market correction remains high. It is expected that the price of acrylic acid will continue to weaken and gradually return to a reasonable range from its high levels. Short-term operations should primarily be cautious, being alert to the risk of further price declines.
