Abbott Restructures: Formation of Gen Med Division Announced on January 15

ECHEMI 2025-01-17

Today, January 15, Linda Wang, General Manager of Abbott Pharmaceuticals for China, announced a significant organizational change: the merger of the CPU and GI divisions into a new entity called the Gen Med Division. This restructuring aims to enhance operational efficiency and streamline product management.

Leadership Changes and New Appointments

Linda Wang joined Abbott on January 1, 2024, transitioning from her role as General Manager in Pfizer’s China Oncology Division. She reports directly to Sammy Karam, Senior Vice President of EPD Emerging Markets.

As part of the newly formed Gen Med Division, key appointments include:

  • Liu Yujuan, formerly the Director of the CPU Division, will now serve as the National Sales Director for Gen Med, overseeing all sales strategies and management across the division's product lines. Liu will continue to be a member of Abbott's EPD China management team.
  • Yang Qing, former Director of the GI Division, has been appointed as the Marketing Director of the Gen Med Division, responsible for market strategies and management for all products. Yang will also maintain her position within Abbott's EPD China management team.

Strategic Implications

This restructuring reflects Abbott’s commitment to enhancing its market presence and operational capabilities in China. By merging these two divisions, the company aims to better align its resources and expertise, ultimately improving service delivery and product innovation in the Gen Med sector.
