Johnson Matthey and Bosch Collaborate on Hydrogen Technology
UK-based Johnson Matthey (JM) and German engineering giant Bosch have entered into a long-term collaboration to develop and produce high-performance catalyst coated membranes (CCMs) for hydrogen fuel cells.
The transformation and decarbonization of the automotive industry requires a combination of powertrains and solutions for different vehicle types, the companies said.
A hydrogen fuel cell is an electrochemical device that combines hydrogen and oxygen to produce electricity. Since pure water is the only byproduct, fuel cell electric vehicles are a clean, zero-emission option.
As part of the collaboration, Bosch will use JM’s high-performance CCMs in its integrated, compact, scalable fuel cell power modules designed for longer-range commercial vehicles.
The agreement was signed by Anish Taneja, CEO of JM Hydrogen Technologies, and Beate Grota, Executive Vice President of Bosch Automotive Engineering Power Solutions, at the Bosch Fuel Cell Center in Stuttgart-Feuerbach, Germany.
Anish Taneja said: "JM is excited to work together to explore and develop future possibilities to accelerate cleaner mobility and energy production."
Beate Grota added: "Fuel cell technology for mobile applications is technically ready for widespread use. Our collaboration aims to further improve the performance and efficiency of fuel cell stacks."
