EU Imposes Anti-Dumping Duties on Chinese Biodiesel Ranging from 10% to 35.6%

ECHEMI 2025-02-18

On February 11, the European Commission announced a significant ruling imposing anti-dumping duties on biodiesel originating from China, with rates set between 10.0% and 35.6%. These measures will take effect the day after the announcement.

The EU stated that this action is aimed at “protecting” over 6,000 jobs across more than 60 manufacturers in 18 member states. The biodiesel market in the EU is valued at approximately €25 billion annually.

This final ruling specifically targets pure biodiesel and blended biodiesel, while sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) is exempt from these tariffs. The new tax rates will replace the provisional duties that were set to be imposed in August 2024.

The investigation into the anti-dumping practices concerning Chinese biodiesel was initiated by the European Commission on December 20, 2023. A preliminary ruling was issued on August 16, 2024, which proposed temporary anti-dumping duties ranging from 12.8% to 36.4%.
