Lanxess Launches Groundbreaking Low-Emission Yellow Pigment Bayferrox with 35% Reduced Carbon Footprint

ECHEMI 2025-03-06

On February 26, Lanxess announced the launch of its highly sustainable new Bayferrox yellow iron oxide pigment, which will be marketed under the Scopeblue label.

The production process of this low-emission yellow pigment significantly reduces carbon emissions, addressing the growing demand for sustainable pigments in the paints and coatings industry. According to Daniela Schmitt, Global Market Head of Lanxess' Inorganic Pigments Business Unit, the company is progressively rolling out the Scopeblue product line in response to this market trend, positioning it as a key element of its sustainability strategy.

Schmitt stated, “With the introduction of our new low-emission Bayferrox yellow pigment, we aim to enhance the sustainability of our customers' value chains. As the first manufacturer to promote environmental product declarations for iron oxide pigments, Lanxess is further solidifying its pioneering role in sustainability with this innovative low-emission product line.”

The Scopeblue pigments utilize more environmentally efficient raw materials, achieving approximately 35% lower carbon footprint compared to traditional Bayferrox products. This data has been validated through lifecycle analysis certified by TüV Rheinland in Germany. Additionally, the sourcing and use of these low-emission raw materials comply with ISCC Plus (International Sustainability and Carbon Certification) standards, certified using the mass balance approach. All newly launched Bayferrox Scopeblue products seamlessly integrate into existing coating systems, maintaining the same chemical composition, color, and functional characteristics as traditional Bayferrox pigments.
