Bayer’s Flubendiamide Business Acquired by Tagros, Bringing a New Operator to Markets in Over 25 Countries Worldwide

ECHEMI 2026-01-16

Recently, India-based Tagros Chemicals Limited signed a definitive agreement with Bayer to acquire Bayer’s global flubendiamide (FLB)–related business assets. The transaction covers more than 25 country markets across Latin America, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and the Asia–Pacific region.

The acquisition includes both single-active and combination formulations of flubendiamide, along with a comprehensive package of associated assets such as product registrations, technical dossiers, formulations, brands, and inventories. Transferred brands include Belt, Fame, Fenos, Fenos Quick, Belt Expert, and Tihan, all of which have established stable sales bases in insecticide markets for crops such as rice and cotton. Through this transaction, Bayer has transferred the entire commercial system built around flubendiamide, enabling Tagros to rapidly take over existing market structures without the need to rebuild registration frameworks or distribution networks.

Flubendiamide is a diamide insecticide and was one of the earlier products successfully commercialized globally by Bayer, primarily targeting lepidopteran pests. During its patent-protected period, it ranked among the world’s best-selling insecticides. After patent expiry, although competition intensified, the product has continued to maintain a sizable market—particularly in Asia and Latin America and in high-usage crops such as rice—supported by well-established registrations, clear use recommendations, and entrenched farmer adoption.

Tagros has traditionally focused on the supply of technical active ingredients and intermediates, with its formulation business mainly concentrated in regional markets and B2B partnerships. This acquisition grants Tagros immediate access to mature formulation products, international brands, and complete registration portfolios across multiple regions, representing a key strategic step in its expansion into the B2C finished-formulation market. By inheriting existing brands and market systems, Tagros can significantly shorten its commercialization cycle and reduce early-stage market uncertainty.

For Bayer, the divestment is part of its ongoing efforts to optimize the structure of its Crop Science division. The company is increasingly allocating R&D and market resources toward new molecules, biological crop protection products, and digital solutions. For off-patent, highly competitive chemical products such as flubendiamide, profit margins no longer align well with the operating model of multinational corporations; however, their mature registrations and market foundations remain attractive to companies with cost advantages.

Industry observers note that in the short term, the transfer of this business is unlikely to alter flubendiamide’s application landscape in major markets. Nevertheless, the change in ownership may introduce new variables in product pricing, channel strategies, and competitive dynamics going forward.
