Price Surge Alert as Major Suppliers Increase Barium Sulfate Costs by 200 Yuan per Ton
On March 18, 2025, multiple companies in the barium sulfate production sector announced a price adjustment of 200 yuan per ton due to escalating production costs driven by raw material shortages. Jimei Jinghua Technology (Guangdong) Co., Ltd. stated that the supply of barite resources necessary for precipitated barium sulfate has become increasingly tight. After careful consideration of the rising costs and supply challenges, the company will implement this price change effective immediately.
Similarly, Hubei Qinba New Materials Co., Ltd. cited significant increases in raw material prices, which have placed immense pressure on production costs. They, too, will raise the price of precipitated barium sulfate by 200 yuan per ton starting March 17. Other companies, including Guizhou Hongxing Development Import and Export Co., Ltd. and Shaanxi Fuhua Chemical Co., Ltd., have echoed this sentiment, with each announcing similar price hikes due to rising operational costs.
Data reveals that domestic prices for precipitated barium sulfate have consistently increased over the past year. From 2,800 yuan per ton in 2024, prices have soared past 4,000 yuan per ton by March 2025, marking an increase of 1,000 yuan and a staggering 42% rise.
As the industry grapples with these challenges, stakeholders should prepare for continued volatility in barium sulfate pricing and consider strategic adjustments in their procurement strategies.
