PPG Reports Q1 2025 Revenue of 3.7 Billion Dollars Profit Down 7 Percent Amid Exchange Pressure
On April 29, 2025, PPG announced its Q1 2025 financial results, reporting $3.7 billion in net sales, a 4% year-over-year decline. The drop was primarily due to a 3% negative impact from currency exchange and a 2% impact from asset divestitures, including the silica business. Organic sales, however, grew by 1%, driven by higher volumes. Net profit decreased 7% to $375 million, while diluted EPS was $1.64, with adjusted EPS at $1.72.
The High-Performance Coatings division led growth with a 9% organic sales increase, driven by aerospace coatings and marine coatings, both achieving double-digit growth. Net sales rose 7% to $1.27 billion, with record sales in aerospace and backlog orders reaching $300 million.
Meanwhile, Architectural Coatings revenues declined 11% to $857 million, impacted by currency exchange and lower volumes. In Industrial Coatings, sales dropped 8% to $1.56 billion, with the automotive sector slowdown in the US and Europe being partially offset by gains in China and Latin America.
PPG repurchased $400 million in shares and ended the quarter with $5.4 billion in net debt, up by $340 million year-over-year. CEO Tim Knavish highlighted cost control measures, expected to save $75 million in 2025, and reaffirmed the adjusted full-year EPS guidance of $7.75–$8.05, citing market share growth and operational flexibility as key drivers.
