Toray Profit Surges 255 Percent as Carbon Fiber Revenue Nears 300 Billion Yen
On May 14, Toray Industries announced its full-year financial results for fiscal 2025 (April 2024–March 2025), revealing a significant 255.8% leap in net profit to ¥77.9 billion, driven by robust gains in its carbon fiber and composites division.
Annual revenue rose 4% year-over-year to ¥2.56 trillion, while core operating income soared 39.1% to ¥142.8 billion, signaling improved profitability across key sectors. The carbon fiber and composite materials segment posted ¥300 billion in revenue, up 3.3%, and ¥22.5 billion in total profit, marking a 70.7% jump.
Growth was strongest in the aerospace sector, where sales rose 15% to ¥104.9 billion, comprising 35% of segment revenue, thanks to rising aircraft production. Sporting goods followed with a 9% increase, reaching ¥29.5 billion, amid steady demand for high-strength, lightweight materials. However, industrial applications—still the largest slice at 55%—declined 4% due to weakened demand and fierce price competition.
Toray acknowledged global uncertainty tied to U.S. tariffs under the Trump administration, currency volatility, and ongoing tension in Asian export markets. The company warned these factors could reshape supply chains and global trade dynamics in the medium to long term.
In response, Toray is executing its AP-G 2025 mid-term strategy, focusing on structural growth and resilience. For fiscal 2026, the company forecasts ¥2.67 trillion in revenue, ¥150 billion in core operating income, and ¥82 billion in net profit, assuming a dollar/yen exchange rate of 145. The carbon fiber division is projected to grow 16% to ¥316 billion, with profit expected to reach ¥24 billion.
