Covestro Unveils 3 New Safety Film Solutions Ahead of 2025 China Glass Expo
As safety and durability standards rise across industries—from specialty vehicles to high-security buildings—Covestro is stepping up with cutting-edge film technologies designed to enhance laminated glass performance. The company will make its first appearance at the 2025 China Glass Expo, debuting an expanded lineup of high-performance TPU-based film solutions.
Covestro’s thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) films bond layers of glass, polycarbonate, or acrylic into strong, shatter-resistant composites, preventing fragmentation and safeguarding users. These films offer exceptional flexibility, toughness, and impact resistance, making them suitable for complex curved surfaces and demanding environmental conditions.
In addition to the popular Platilon® A4700, Covestro is introducing three innovative products:
-
Platilon® A4500, a soft, low-modulus film ideal for curved or asymmetrical vehicle glass and display screens, providing smooth lamination over irregular surfaces.
-
Platilon® X2260, featuring high hardness and tear strength, engineered for harsh climates, high-speed transit, and de-icing applications in specialized vehicles and bullet-resistant transportation.
-
Platilon® ES2592, a newly developed edge-sealing tape that protects laminated glass edges by blocking moisture infiltration, even in humid or coastal environments.
Dr. Caroline Wolff, Head of Special Films Asia Pacific, emphasized Covestro’s dedication to advancing safety through localized innovation. “In today’s uncertain world, our customers demand solutions that are both reliable and forward-thinking. By combining proven film technology with edge sealing innovations, we’re delivering higher security standards for applications like bullet-resistant glass and high-speed rail.”
With support from Covestro’s Shanghai-based innovation center, the company offers tailor-made solutions for the evolving needs of next-generation construction and transportation sectors.
