$84 Million High Tech Coating Project Signed in Maoming Zero Carbon Park

ECHEMI 2025-06-16

On June 7, 2025, Maoming Binhai New Area signed a deal with Guangdong Qise Cai New Materials Co., Ltd. to establish a specialty coatings production base in the Maoming Zero Carbon Industrial Park. With a total investment of $84 million (approximately 6 billion yuan), this project will extend the industrial chain and strengthen China’s domestic coatings market.

Specialty coatings, widely used in defense, new energy vehicles, and aerospace, are in high demand due to China’s manufacturing upgrades. However, foreign brands still dominate over 80% of the market, leaving significant room for domestic substitution.

The facility will cover 120 acres and be built in two phases. Phase one, requiring $63 million (4.5 billion yuan) and 90 acres, will focus on producing high-end defense and battery insulation coatings. Phase two will include a 50,000-ton acrylic resin unit, enhancing upstream material independence.

The project, scheduled from September 2025 to July 2027, will feature advanced equipment like reactors, grinders, dispersers, filling machines, and quality testing instruments such as gas and liquid chromatographs. Once operational, it will produce 80,000 tons of coatings annually, including:

  • 15,000 tons of defense coatings.
  • 19,000 tons of automotive coatings.
  • 15,000 tons of high-end construction coatings.
  • 6,000 tons of battery insulation coatings.
  • 25,000 tons of anticorrosion and other industrial coatings.
