Japan Proposes New Pesticide Residue Limits Feedback Open Until July 15

On June 16, 2025, Japan’s Ministry of Health, Labour, and Welfare issued Proposal 235110016, outlining changes to maximum residue limits (MRLs) for several pesticides and veterinary drugs in food. The public consultation period ends on July 15, 2025.

Key updates include:

• Isofetamid: Proposed MRL for green peppers set at 7 mg/kg (no current limit).
• Dimpropyridaz: MRL for tea leaves proposed at 30 mg/kg (no current limit).
• Thifluzamide: MRL for other vegetables proposed for removal (current limit: 1 mg/kg).
• Pyraziflumid: MRL for pumpkins reduced to 0.9 mg/kg (current: 1 mg/kg).
• Fluxametamide: MRL for radish roots increased to 0.2 mg/kg (current: 0.07 mg/kg).

The revisions aim to align with updated safety data and international standards. Stakeholders are encouraged to submit feedback before the deadline.
