Shandong Suspends Chemical Park Qualification After Deadly Accident
The Shandong Provincial Authorities recently issued a Notice on the Suspension of the Chemical Park Qualification of Gaomi Renhe Chemical Industrial Park. This decision follows a major safety accident at Shandong Youdao Chemical Co., Ltd. on May 27, 2025, which resulted in multiple casualties.
According to the notice, the park’s qualification has been suspended under the Shandong Chemical Park Management Regulations. Effective immediately, all activities related to new construction, reconstruction, expansion, and technical upgrades are prohibited, except for projects addressing safety hazards, pollution control, or intelligent upgrades. Projects that have received approval but have not yet started construction are also banned from breaking ground.
Additionally, in line with the Shandong Provincial Chemical Park Expansion and Adjustment Regulations (Document No. 5, 2025), the park is barred from expanding or adjusting its boundaries for two years. Future decisions to restore or revoke the park’s qualification will depend on the rectification of identified issues.
This suspension underscores the strict enforcement of safety protocols in Shandong’s chemical industry and highlights the consequences of non-compliance for industrial parks.
