Covestro Acquires Adhesive Manufacturer Pontacol
Covestro has signed an agreement to acquire Pontacol, a Swiss manufacturer of multilayer adhesive films. The acquisition will strategically expand Covestro's specialty film portfolio and further advance the implementation of its corporate strategy "A Sustainable Future". At the same time, the company will continue to expand growth in sustainable and innovative business areas.
"The acquisition of Pontacol is strategically and financially attractive. We are acquiring a highly profitable company with great growth potential and synergies. This enables us to strategically expand our multilayer adhesive film capacities in Europe, integrate our innovation strengths and open up new markets. As a result, we can offer our customers even stronger solutions, enhance our competitiveness and achieve sustainable development."
With this acquisition, Covestro will complement its film business with highly specialized flat and blown film businesses - a complementary portfolio that will help it grow further in attractive application areas. The film business continues to grow globally, mainly due to growing demand in key future markets such as medical technology, mobility and the textile industry.
In addition, Covestro is acquiring two specialized production sites in Switzerland and Germany that focus on different film technologies. This not only strengthens the company's global production network, but also improves the regional supply capacity for adhesive films. The acquisition also opens up additional value creation potential through complementary technologies, an expanded customer and product portfolio, and synergies in central functions and purchasing.
Aukje Doornbos, head of the Specialty Films business entity at Covestro, said: "This acquisition is an important milestone in our growth strategy for the Specialty Films business. In recent years, we have invested heavily in expanding our global capacities. The addition of Pontacol will strengthen our product development capabilities and expand our global product portfolio for our customers. We are particularly looking forward to the approximately 100 experienced employees who will make a valuable contribution to our further development with their expertise."
